Cole Sprouse, 28 has finally put rumours to bed by confirming split from Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart, 23.
The real-life Riverdale couple, who play Betty and Jughead AKA Bughead have been one of Hollywood’s most fascinating couples, keeping fans on their toes with their on-again-off-again relationship.
The couple have had us guessing for months on whether they were still an item, when sources confirmed they were isolating separately after filming for Riverdale was shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Cole went to Instagram on August 20, and confirmed the break-up, he wrote: “Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March. What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love. I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter.
“Also her movie comes out soon! I’m sure she’s just as incredible in it as everything else she does. Thanks guys ❤️”
Over the last few months Lili has spoken up about difficulties with mental health. Many seem to think her struggles with depression are linked to her break-up with her Riverdale co-star.
Lili has been left defending herself on social media due to these speculations, she wrote: “Quotes taken from my most recent interview are not about a “break-up.” They are about the depression I’ve felt over the last few months. Tired of people taking my words out of context and piercing together their own story for clickbait.
“I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a break-up. That’s incredibly private. I was addressing my depression.”
The Riverdale couple dated for two seasons of the popular show, and sparked dating rumours back in 2017 when they were seen cosying up to each other while promoting season two of the CW show at Entertainment Weekly’s annual San Diego Comic-Con.
While we’re sad to see the couple has officially split, we wish them all the best for the future.
