Little Mix: The Search opens first live episode with a performance of “Sweet Melody” but Jade Thirlwall was absent due to self-isolation

Little Mix opened the first live show of The Search with an exclusive performance of their new single “Sweet Melody”.

Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock looked stunning as they took to the stage in black and white leather skintight outfits.

However, Jade Thirlwall was absent from the performance as she was home, self-isolating amid the coronavirus pandemic.

South Shields comedian and host of the show, Chris Ramsey took to the stage after the performance, he sad: “I am so happy to finally say welcome to Little Mix The Search. We are here to find the next big thing in music.”

As Little Mix took their seats, Chris added: “Now obviously Jade is currently isolating at home but we have her here.”

Jade appeared via video link from home, and expressed her sadness to not be in the studio, she said: “I am doing alright, I’m obviously gutted that I can’t be here tonight but I’m happy that I can do it from home.”

Jade is acting on advice given by the government and self-isolating for 14 days after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. However, it is believed she will return for next weeks show.

The six bands in for a chance to win The Search and go on tour with Little Mix next year revealed their band names to viewers for the first time during the episode.

The vocal and instrument group opted for Since September, the boyband went for New Priority and the girl vocal group chose Nostalia.

The mixed group went for Jasper Blue, while the girl dance group opted for Melladaze and the R&B group chose YChange.

Since September kicked things of with Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” and impressed Little Mix with their stage presence and bond as a band.

Leigh-Anne said: “I feel quite emotional watching you. You look and perform like you’ve been together for years.”

The groups are judged on a score out of 100% with each Little Mix member able to give a maximum socre of 25%.

Since September received a score of 84% setting a high standard for those that followed. Next to perform were Nostalia who were short a member as Mya-Louise was absent due to personal reasons, performing “Case Of The Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do” by Mya.

Next up were New Priority who performed “Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weekend. Then Jasper Blue, who sang “I Just Go Paid” by Sigala, Ella Eyre and Meghan Trainor.

YChange received the highest praise of the evening with Jesy proclaiming: “You are my favourite of the night.”

Jade added: “I felt like I was watching you at the BRIT Awards.”

Melladaze were the final group to take to the stage and performed “Sucker” by the Jonas Brothers, but were critiqued for their vocals.

Receiving the lowest scores of the evening Jasper Blue and Melladaze had to sing again and fight for their place in the competition.

Jasper Blue performed “Walk Me Home” by Pink while Melladaze sang a variation of “We Got Love” by Sigala and Ella Henderson.

Little Mix discussed among themselves which group they were going to send home, and all four chose to save Melladaze meaning it was the end of the road for Jasper Blue.

Little Mix: The Search continues at 6:10pm on Saturday, October 31 on BBC One and iPlayer.
