Everything you need to know about the FRIENDS reunion special

The Friends reunion has been a dream of fans for years – and there have been rumors about the supposed reunion, with members of the cast speaking in interviews saying how much they would love to reprise their roles one last time.

Well, it’s finally happening as the cast of the much loved 90s TV show are set to gather for a special on HBO’s streaming service HBO Max to honor the sitcoms 25th anniversary.

Friends which followed the life of six young friends living in New York City, aired from 1994 until 2004, and the final episode was viewed by more than 52.5 million people in the US making it the most watched TV episode of the 2000s.

The one-off special was due to start filming in August this year but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Matthew Perry who plays funny man Chandler Bing went to twitter last night (November 12) to tell fans that production will resume in March 2021.

“Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March. Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that’s the way I like it!” Perry tweeted.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer will reunite on the original Friends soundstage – Stage 24 at the Warner Bros. Studio in Burbank to film and all six stars will also executive produce.

Will it be available to watch in the UK?

Fans have gone to twitter to express their concerns that HBO Max is not available in the UK, with no equivalent streaming service, leading people to believe the special will not air in the UK at all but that may not be true.

In the UK, Friends is available to watch on TV channels such as Comedy Central and Channel 4, as well as being available to steam on Netflix. It would make sense that any one of these channels would bid for the rights to pick up the special, unless another channel or service were to out bid them.

Since being released on Netflix the sitcom has beaten recent releases to the top of the UK’s most popular shows and ranks the most-watched programme on subscription streaming services.

Logically, picking up the reunion special would be massively beneficial for any broadcasting station or streaming service – so while we may not get it when it initially drops in the US, it’s still likely to air in the UK at some point.

HBO has not yet announced a release date for the reunion special.
