The Great British Bake Off crowns its youngest winner to date

Last nights final (November 24) of the Great British Bake Off saw Peter Sawkins, Laura Adlington and Dave Friday enter the tent to compete for the final time.

The three hopefuls had to complete a custard slice Signature Challenge, and a complex Technical which saw them tackle Prue Leith’s Coffee Walnut Whirls before going all out for their Dessert Tower Showstopper.

Laura struggled in the first two challenges, while Peter and Dave fared better but it came down to their final bakes where Peter stunned with his Bonkers Bake Off bubble cake which was praised for its flavours.

The 20-year-old student from Edinburgh University was crowned the winner of the GBBO 2020 by Prue and Paul Hollywood.

As the series was filmed under strict COVID-19 restriction, friends and family were unable to join the finalists for the announcement, and were instead joined by the crew who were responsible for making this years show possible.

As usual, viewers were treated to a montage showing what the contestant have been up to since filming earlier this year, which included a sneaky snap of Dave and his newborn baby, Ronnie, Peter back at University, Laura baking in a “tidier” kitchen and a tribute to Luis Troyano, a contestant from series five who sadly died earlier this year – and yes, we cried.

So, since the show has wrapped up for the year we’re going to take a trip down memory lane with one last set of recipes:
