Book Club: 10 New releases to read this December

From in-their-own-words stories to fictional favourites, these new releases will keep you busy throughout your Christmas break at home (and may make perfect gifts too).

Faye’s picks:

1. The Wrong Family

Tarryn Fisher

Have you ever been wrong about someone? Juno thought Winnie and her husband, Nigel, had the perfect perfect life, but only now that she’s living in their house does she see the cracks. The retired therapist just wants a place to live out the rest of her days in peace, but then she hears a chilling conversation, and she has a secret of her own. This thriller is sure to have us all gripped.

2. The Mystery of Mrs. Christie

Marie Benedict

In December 1926, Agatha Christie goes missing. Investigators find her empty car on the edge of a pond and the only clues are some tire tracks and a fur coat left in the car. Eleven days later, she reappears, just as mysteriously as she disappeared, providing no explanations for her time away. We can’t wait to solve this mystery.

3. The Book of Moods

Lauren Martin

Five years ago, Lauren Martin was sure something was wrong with her as she wrestled with feelings of inferiority, anxiety and irritability. Now her international online community of women has given her an audience who feel the same. Inspired by them, this book shares Lauren’s journey to infuse her life with a sense of peace and stability.

4. Admission

Julie Buxbaum

Chloe Wynn Berringer has it all: money, privilege, and a ticket to the college of her dreams. Or at least she did until the FBI came along and her future went up in smoke. Now her B-list celebrity mother is under arrest in a massive college admissions bribery scandal, and Chloe might be the next one facing charges. We’re sure this book is filled with plenty of drama.

5. A Curse of Roses

Diana Pinguicha

Imagine if everything you ate turned into flowers. There’s a famine and Princess Yzabel is wasting food simply by trying to eat it. Before she can even swallow, her magic has turned the meal into a bouquet. She’s on the verge of starving, which only reminds her that the people of Portugal have been enduring the same pain for years. She just wants to reverse her magic. An Enchanted Moura, is the only one who can help, but she is trapped by magical binds. She can teach Yzabel how to control her curse if Yzabel sets her free with a kiss, but that would be committing treason. This one sounds complex but gripping.

Candice’s picks:

Their parents send them to the resort in the hopes of getting back into Grandmothers good graces, however it becomes clear to the cousins upon their arrival that she has other intentions. The longer they stay, the more they realise their families dark past and what pulled them apart years ago is not over.

7. Revenge Cake

Skyler Mason

According to reviews, the books highlights mental health issues and the darker realities of living with mental health issues rather than romanticising addiction.

8. How to Fail at Flirting
