There are two types of people during a pandemic, the ones that don’t bother with makeup at all because a face mask covers half your face when you’re out in public, and the ones that continue to do a full face of makeup because they’re still clinging to a life they once knew – and we applaud both.
No matter what side you’re on, there have still been some amazing beauty moments floating around on Instagram and we’re taking a look back at the last 12 months and choosing some of our favourite moments.
Candice’s favourite moments:
1. Rebel Wilson’s flawless skin
Rebel Wilson is a powerhouse of a woman, she’s talented in so many ways and I love this photo, she always has a flawless finish to her skin, and knows how to accent her eyes. She’s someone’s I’ve looked to for makeup inspiration more than once.
2. Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s amazing curls
Leigh-Anne always looked effortlessly put-together. This image showcases her AMAZING natural curls and a genuine smile and “you’re never fully dressed without a smile”.
3. Queen of the Castle Giovanna Fletcher’s natural beauty
Giovanna Fletcher is an amazing woman, who very rarely wears makeup on her Instagram and it’s one of the reasons I love her account. I think that a person as influential as Giovanna is and the fact she is able to be her full self 100% of the time is amazing.
4. Miley Cyrus’ punk rock makeup
Personally, I find Miley Cyrus very controversial BUT I can’t deny that her recent looks have been insane. This one in particular really stood out to me this year. The shaggy 70s bob paired with outrageous clashing makeup really makes an impact, and has an old-school punk rock vibe about it – I can hear “London Calling” by The Clash playing in the background of this image, it’s just so powerful.
5. Dua Lipa’s hair accessories
I remember the first time I saw this look and I was still thinking about it months later. It’s the hair clips which sounds silly, but I use to wear these all the time and I remembered them being more of a “nerdy” accessory but it appears as if celebrities are now making it trendy, as I’ve seen it becoming more popular among female influencers over the past year. It may not become a full blown trend but I am excited to see another 90s hair accessory making an appearance this year.
6. Ariana Grande’s pigtails
We’re so use to seeing Ariana Grande in her signature half-up-half-down, and it’s been that way for many years. Only recently has she stepped out of her comfort zone and tried new hairstyles. One of the most memorable hairstyles this year was her pigtails for the VMAs when she performed “Rain On Me” with Lady Gaga.
Faye’s favourite moments:
7. MAC donating to help with Covid-19
To support vulnerable communities this year, MAC donated an incredible $10,000,000 to a variety of organisations. They proved just how important it is for big brands in beauty to help others in these continuously difficult times.
8. Jesy Nelson’s AMAZING Halloween Look
For Halloween this year, singer Jesy showed us a different take on the lady in red – and didn’t she look amazing? We just wish we had Heidi North’s makeup skills to pull this off.
9. Mia Maples as Christina Aguilera
Mia is for sure my ‘soul sister’ as she’s been getting me through lockdown with her YouTube videos. I just loved when she recreated Christina’s Moulin Rouge look – and what a look it is. The eye makeup is just phenomenal.
10. Dianne Buswell in full glam
Round of applause to the Strictly makeup team. Dianne’s glam look was on point. Dark smoky eyes and a red lip are so classic and Dianne pulled the look off in style.
11. Jac Jossa for BPerfect Cosmetics
Since becoming Queen of the Jungle, Jac has been growing more and more; not only as a person but in her creative collabs too. Her glosses and lashes with BPerfect are a great example, and I loved the photoshoot for the gorgeous collection.
12. Vicky Pattison and her honesty
It’s not all about thick makeup and full glam; find you a girl who can do both – like Vicky. I love the way she has continued to make people smile this year by debunking camera angles and putting the reality back into reality stars. Forget filters, Vicky is empowering women with honesty.
