Even in lockdown there are plenty of ways to celebrate the most romantic day of the year – and Waitrose have all the ideas we need
They say more customers than ever have been seeking for ideas for Valentine’s Day as searches on Waitrose.com are up over 100% when compared to last year, and dinner for two searches are up 114% since the end of December. Here’s what they suggest:
Steak
Waitrose expect their customers to be opting for steak, as during the week of Valentine’s Day, sales of steak increase by 20% there. Plus, at John Lewis, Le Creuset’s signature skillet in cerise is proving popular, with sales up 238% compared to last year.
Thankfully, the chefs from the Waitrose Cookery School will be on hand to share their knowledge and expertise to help novice chefs cook the perfect steak this year. You can take part in a virtual class on the 13th or 14th of February to learn the basics of cooking steak, how to make a classic steak sauce and tips on resting and slicing.
Dine-in
Even if cooking from scratch isn’t on the cards, Waitrose has an option for everyone.
Their Valentine’s dinner for two deal is full of delicious options and includes a starter, a main, two sides and a dessert, plus the choice of a bottle of wine (including fizz) or a box of chocolates, for just £20.
Cheers
Champagne coupes and cocktail saucers are seeing rising sales at John Lewis, up 16% and 105% respectively and sales of spirits at Waitrose are up 24% versus last year, so cocktails are certianly on the menu this year.
Waitrose Cellar has a wide selection of spirits and fizz which can be delivered to your door, and they have plenty of cocktail recipes for inspiration, including a deliciously sweet Valentine’s Rhubarb Gin cocktail.
