Seven tips to help get rid of spots and blemishes

We all get them. Spots and blemishes are a part of growing up, and can last well into adulthood. However, we’re often made to feel insecure about something that everyone naturally goes through — sometimes this insecurity can come from the media, social pressure or tv shows.

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions affecting around 85% of people and unfortunately some people do get it worse than others. But, nobody should ever feel bad about their skin and even more so, nobody should ever make a person feel bad about their skin.

However, like most skin conditions you can treat acne but in some cases treatments may need to be prescribed by a GP, but some medications can be associated with adverse effects, such as skin irritation and dryness, or a person may need to be referred to a dermatologist.

1. ICE

The cooling method works best for inflammation caused by acne.

  1. Begin by cleansing your skin.
  2. Then, wrap the ice cube in a thick towel, cloth, or use a cold compress.
  3. Apply the ice for one minute and then remove.

2. MASK TREATMENT

Give your skin some love! Before you layer on a mask treatment, clean your skin, exfoliate and then apply the mask. It’s best to pick a charcoal of clay mask.

3. WASH YOUR FACE TWICE A DAY (AFTER SWEATING)

Acne prone skin is sensitive. Washing more than twice a day can cause skin irritation making acne worse. The best times to wash your face are either, when you wake up, before you go to bed, or when your face is sweaty.

4. STOP SCRUBBING YOUR FACE

When your face feels greasy, you may feel an urge to scrub it clean – DON’T. Scrubbing your face can make acne worse.

5. RESIST POPPING, SQUEEZING AND TOUCHING

Popping may seem like the fastest way to clear away blemishes but that’s not true. Not only can it make acne worse, spreading bacteria to other areas of the face but could lead to scaring.

6. DON’T JUST TREAT INFECTED AREAS

When applying acne treatment, don’t just apply to affected areas. Wash your whole face as this with treat your acne and prevent further breakouts.

7. BE SMART WITH YOUR MAKEUP CHOICES

Choose the right cosmetics, typically ones that don’t clog pores, non-acnegenic and are oil free.

However, some products can still cause breakouts and it may take some experimentation to find the ones that work for your skin. The key may be not holding onto “old-faithfuls” that you’ve used for years that could possibly be making acne worse.
