Galantis, David Guetta, and Little Mix have teamed up for a new song, “Heartbreak Anthem.”
Heartbreak Anthem is a huge moment for Little Mix as the single is the first official release of new music for the trio since Jesy Nelson announced she was leaving the group in December.
However, the girlband did begin working on the song with Galantis and Guetta before the coronavirus pandemic and Jesy’s vocals were included in the track. It’s reported that the lyrics of the song were not changed but the song did have to be rearranged to suit the trio.
The Samuel Douek-directed video features a dramatic theatre production called Winged Fatales, where Little Mix portray “angelic beings fallen from another world.” With Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, and Jade Thirlwall adorned in winged costumes.
Heartbreak Anthem is not your typical break-up song with its upbeat tempo, thumpy beat and lyrics that despite the name say: “Hello, it’s me your ex, I called to say not sorry, but I wish you the best and I don’t hold no grudges, promise this ain’t a test. We okay.”
Ultimately the song is about getting through a break-up with no grudges, knowing sometimes things don’t work out and not dwelling on it.
